Takeaway Only

Creative Producer + Director + Head of writing + Video editing

The University of Newcastle has taken their annual sketch comedy show online with UON Revue 2020: Takeaway Only. Filmed, developed and edited over the course of five weeks, the revue team has created a series of eleven video sketches for COVID-safe viewing from your bed, toilet or trampoline.

In 2020, I was invited back on board as the professional director of the University of Newcastle's annual Uni Revue. In the midst of a pandemic, rehearsals were split between Zoom and limited in-person meetings - often a mix of both. However, mid-way through the development process there was a change in circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we were unable to put on a performance in front of a live audience.

Instead, we took it as an opportunity and adapted, produced, filmed and edited eleven of the sketches. The sketches were then uploaded every weekday to the UON Student Central Facebook page during the University of Newcastle's "Create" week, and later as a playlist to YouTube.

Thanks to the incredibly dedicated group of students, the "takeaway only" revue was completed in a five-week time frame, and received great feedback from audiences and the participants alike.
